Comedy: Matt Okine, Being Black and Chicken S#%t

Award winning Australian mixed race comedian Matt Okine is performing in London in August/September.  There’s little online describing Matt’s ethnicity, other than that he’s of African descent, and perhaps he likes it that way.  I haven’t seen him perform before but Stand and Deliver writes that Matt rifts on that eternal question ‘where are you from?’ (with the implication its not from ‘here’), when really what people are asking is why do you look different.

“And of course, in the big cities where the audience is less homogenous, punters will step up to Matt after a gig and tell him that they experience the behaviour he described – people asking where they’re from and not meaning ‘where in Australia’ – all the time.”

However according to Timeout this show is more about seafood than race, “this superbly funny hour of exasperated storytelling comedy with a seafood theme (rather than on the subjects of chicken and being black).”

Catch him at the Soho Theatre between 28 August – 7 September 2013
